Join a Community Conversation: Funding Ethics

Join a community conversation (open to all MIT community members) to share experiences about our values coming into conflict with funding for our work.

Members of the MIT community often share a recurring question: What do we do if we have qualms about where our research funding comes from or what our research will be used for?

This conversation will provide stories, frameworks, and orientations for those navigating the intersection of funding and moral responsibility. Our speakers hold multiple roles across campus and will share their lived experience identifying, communicating, and acting from their values.

As a preparation for honest and deep engagement, Radius has worked with the MIT Center for Constructive Communication’s translational research team—through realtalk@MIT—to host small, largely anonymized conversations about these topics with students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Recording these conversations and sharing highlights in an interactive data visualization, we mapped this issue as it currently stands, identifying common themes and points of confusion. This SenseMap will feature at our event and will serve as the springboard for our conversation.
