Querycraft: How to talk to anyone on campus

Initiating conversation is a skill, and like any skill, it gets easier with practice.

We often hear that peer mentors are incredibly passionate about supporting first years, but they just don't know how to start the conversation or make the first move.

Initiating conversation is a skill, and like any skill, it gets easier with practice. With each conversation you start, you're building a kind of social muscle memory.

You'll find yourself intuitively knowing how to approach someone, what topics to bring up, and how to keep the flow going. This reduces the mental effort and stress associated with the act itself. This is why people who frequently network or meet new people often appear so effortless; they've simply done it so many times that the stress of initiating has become minimal.

realtalk@MIT presents: Querycraft, an experiment by MIT researchers trying to figure out how to help peers initiate conversations. Reach out to us to try it out yourself!
